Taddy claims fifth 2011 Endurocross win
Taddy Blazusiak has taken an important step closer to defending the AMA Endurocross championship as the KTM Enduro Factory Team rider secured his fifth consecutive win of the 2011 series inside the National Western Complex in Denver, Colorado. Having enjoyed an amazing run of race winning form since the start of the championship, Blazusiak claimed his fifth win at the end of yet another hard fought night of racing.
Once again setting the pace during the night’s two practice sessions, Taddy’s speed was confirmed when he topped the Hot Lap session to head into the qualifying races as favourite for victory. Winning his heat race and claiming the fastest winning time in the process Taddy’s hopes of getting himself out front from the start of the main event failed to materialise. Pushed into third as he exited the first turn, Blazusiak needed only until the end of the opening lap to make his way into the lead. Looking like he was headed for an unchallenged win Taddy made a rare mistake, which dropped him to third, but after qucikly re-passing team-mate Mike Brown Taddy went on to claim a convincing win. Taddy now holds a 48-point advantage at the top of the 2011 Endurocross points standings.
Round six of the 2011 Endurocross series takes place at the Idaho Centre in Boise, Idaho on October 22.
Taddy: “What can I say, things continue to go really well. We’re five rounds into the championship and I’ve had five wins – things couldn’t have been any better so far. I really enjoyed this weekend’s race because the track was good and wide and the obstacles weren’t too challenging. I felt good from the start, but could feel that the altitude would make things a little tougher than normal. The Hot Lap session was really good as I got into a fast rhythm early and was able to stay mistake free. From that my heat race went well. I got the fastest time of all the heat races, which gave me the first pick of the start for the final. I got pushed out a little at the start and came around the first corner in third. I was leading by the end of the first lap and had a comfortable lead after three or four laps. Then I made a mistake when my front wheel washed out from under me and that put me back to second behind Mike Brown. I got back into the lead later that lap and pushed hard for a few more laps to open up a good lead again. Winning again is great. I’m 48 points ahead now and looking forward to the next race.”
